FAQs
How many lessons do I need to take? – There is no one correct answer to this question. Generally a set of 6-12 weekly lessons is a good starting point to get a basic understanding. Some people find the understanding they are looking for after just 1 or 2 lessons. Some people continue taking lessons for years because they enjoy continuing to improve in how they use their body and mind. Like learning any new skill, the Alexander Technique takes time. You wouldn’t expect to learn how to play the violin with only a couple of lessons and the Alexander Technique is no different.
How frequently should my lessons be? – Some sort of consistent lessons tend to work the best. Some people like taking a lesson every week for a month and then taking a break for a while to digest the information. Others enjoy taking a lesson once a month. Some people continually take lessons every week for an extended period of time and then never come again. When I started, I could only afford a lesson every couple of months, so my lessons were sporadic, and I still learned quite a lot. There is no single answer to the right frequency, it is highly individual.
Where will the lessons take place? – Lessons will take place at my studio in Tallahassee, FL. Lessons can also take place at the students house, assuming they have the space for it, with a small additional charge for my time traveling.
What do I need to bring for a lesson? – Bring an open mind and a willingness to try something new.
What should I wear to my lesson? – There is no special dress-code other than non-restrictive clothing.
Is the Alexander Technique medically sound? – Although the Alexander Technique is not a form of medical intervention and is instead an educational modality, there have been numerous studies that show the efficacy of the Alexander Technique in improving people’s chronic pain.
