Who is Daniel Slencsak?
My name is Daniel Slencsak and I am an AmSAT certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. I am also a trained saxophonist who holds a master’s degree in music and has won numerous competitions for my playing.
When I was a sophomore in college for my bachelor’s degree in music performance, I started experiencing significant pain in my left elbow. I knew I loved music dearly and that I wanted to continue playing it regardless of what challenges may show up. What I didn’t know is where it would lead me. To fix the constant pain in my elbow, I took almost a year off of the saxophone and went to numerous doctors, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, only to be met with relatively low levels of relief. Then my professor recommended I try the Alexander Technique. Once I found the right teacher for me, the relief was instant. I, for the first time in over a year, wasn’t in pain anymore. I also realized that the pain I was experiencing was caused by my habits and unnecessary tension related to how I played the saxophone. I saw a way out of my chronic pain and knew I had to pursue it.
Then, after my undergraduate studies, I moved to Albuquerque, NM to become certified to teach the Alexander Technique. I studied with Karen DeWig at the Alexander Technique Center of Albuquerque from 2020–2026. During my studies I learned the power of the Alexander Technique in changing the very nature of my daily life. I began to see how little control I had over my habits and reactions. More importantly, though, through the Alexander Technique, I learned to change my behaviors in ways that made my life exponentially better. I was able to completely eliminate any pain in my elbow while playing the saxophone, and during this time, I was playing the saxophone a lot. From 2023–2025 I completed my master’s degree in music performance, which meant I was spending many hours a day practicing. During my time in Albuquerque, I was also able to eliminate the constant lower back pain I had been developing since 2017.
Most importantly, while living in Albuquerque, I developed a deep passion for teaching and helping people understand the Alexander Technique. Seeing so many people struggle with chronic pain, habits that control their lives, anxiety, and a general misunderstanding of how their body and mind work has given me a deep empathy for people struggling. It has given me a strong desire to help those who are looking to better themselves and gain more autonomy over their mind and body.
Apart from my professional life, I enjoy hiking, cycling, running, reading, gardening, and spending time with my lovely fiancée and our eight year old calico cat.
I currently live and teach in Tallahassee, FL and would love to meet you.
